(Go Forward 2) Make Sure You Don''t Look Back

From the "Go Forward" Series (Disc Two)

In the second of four teachings Ralph looks at the three men in Luke 9. The first declares he will follow Jesus wherever He goes. The second man Jesus invites to follow Him. Then a third young man comes up and publicly declares he will follow the Lord. Jesus has a different response to each of these three possible disciples.

These three men learn that to follow Jesus means a radical transfer of loyalty from the things of this life to the things of the Kingdom. They come to realize that Jesus is asking for a seriously radical commitment to Him and to His Kingdom. This is a commitment and a loyalty that will require much change and serious adjustment in their every day life.

From a study of Paul’s comments in Philippians 3:10 where Paul discusses his “determined purpose” (Amplified Bible) Ralph then goes on to look at the single-focused life-style that Jesus is demanding. Because “no one who puts his hand to the plow (makes a commitment) and then looks back is fit for service in the Kingdom of God.”

He clearly explains what Jesus is asking from us as we GO FORWARD. He is demanding that:
   

• The furrow we plough be straight and true

• The furrow we plough must be deep and penetrating

• The harvest we reap should be plentiful

Those who chose this life style will have a Kingdom focus and will live differently in the world than they have before. The will change their priorities, their life-style, and their values so as to be found faithful and fruitful.
