Boldly Look Out the Window |
I
would much rather look through a window than into a mirror. A mirror
bores me. A window provides a perspective into someone else’s world.
Today many in the church are looking in a mirror and are thus
self-absorbed with their own issues, concerns, worries, and situations.
Yet, Jesus calls us to die to self and follow Him – a call to look
through the window and see the world as He sees it and to see others and
their world. Their world is often very different than ours and as we
see how others live we are invited by the Lord to become involved with
them in that world.
If we do this is will take us from a narrow and timid view of life to
one that is bold and amazingly broad. It will involve us in many issues
we would otherwise not even think about. It will enable us to meet
people we would normally not interact with. It will invite us into fresh
and new situations that otherwise we would never need to deal with. It
will literally add fresh and vibrant life to our own daily life as we
begin to be a part of fresh new challenges and all that the Lord is
asking us to do around the world in His Name.
As a local church we need to also look through the window. Often a
local church can become so involved in its own life and activities,
events and issues, plans for the future and the daily care of the sheep.
All of this is good but it is like looking in the mirror. We need to
glance through the window and see the bigger picture and then be bold
enough to enter in and become involved representing the Lord in many of
the things we will see happening out there in His world. Only by doing
so will the Kingdom continue to grow and lives changed by the power of
the Gospel.
Let’s boldly look through the window and see where the Lord would
lead us to become involved as we give to others the love, acceptance and
forgiveness we have received from Him. There is a world waiting and we
are called to go into that world and make disciples. Let’s be boldly
about our Father’s business of seeking and saving the lost – and respond
to His call to be bold in His Name.
